Makeela B. Amani

makeelaperforms1-153x300MAB-150x150Brooklyn-based Makeela B. Amani, is a prolific Canadian-born artist working in various mediums, including spoken word, painting, sculpture, web design & development, sterling silver jewelry design, and music as a singer, composer and producer.

Makeela produces poetry and visual art containing harsh images that are said to smack convention. Her first book, “”Journey Free: The Eighth House “” was released from the Deep Roots publishing group (a subsidiary of Kibo Books). Her first CD of poetry “”KeyVisions: The poetik rantings of Makeela Amani”” was released on the Blakhand Artistik label. Makeela 2nd book of poetry, “”Potions & Plots Unraveled from my Locs”” is also published by Kibo Books.

Makeela ‘s poetry reflects the love, struggles, and joys of people of African descent and people in general. Makeela’s poetry is rhythmic and conveys a high mastery of syllables and soliloquies, love, power and empathy. In the images in her general body of artistic work, she unleashes heavy-handed critiques aimed at those who hurt, and caresses with her words those most in need of comfort.
